Convert Image

Convert images between PNG, JPG, WebP, and more right in your browser — pick a target format, preview the result, and download. Nothing is uploaded.

How to convert an image online

An image converter changes a picture from one file format to another — for example PNG to JPG, HEIC to JPG, or WebP to PNG. You convert to make an image open in software that does not support its current format, to shrink a file, or to gain or drop features like transparency. This tool detects your image, lets you pick a target format, and re-encodes it in your browser.

Everything runs on your device — no uploads, no sign-up, and no watermark.

How to use it

1. Drop your image onto the drop zone or click to browse.

2. Choose the format you want to convert to.

3. Preview the result to confirm it looks right.

4. Download the converted image. All processing happens locally in your browser.

What changes when you convert an image

What changes depends on the pair. Moving to a lossy format like JPG or WebP re-compresses the image and can drop transparency (JPG has none); moving to a lossless format like PNG keeps every pixel but produces a larger file and cannot restore detail an earlier lossy step removed. Converting never improves on quality already lost — it only changes the container and, sometimes, the file size.

Pick the target format by what you need: JPG or WebP for small photographic files, PNG for lossless graphics and transparency, and WebP when you want the smallest file that still supports an alpha channel. When you need maximum compatibility, JPG and PNG open virtually everywhere.

Common mistakes to avoid

A few habits trip people up when converting:

- Expecting a conversion to improve quality — it cannot recover detail a lossy format already discarded. - Converting to JPG when you needed to keep transparency; use PNG or WebP instead. - Converting a vector SVG to a raster format at too small a size, then enlarging it and getting blur. - Throwing away the original after converting — keep it as a master copy in case you need another format later.

Frequently asked questions

What image formats can I convert between?

You can convert common formats — PNG, JPG/JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP, SVG, HEIC, and AVIF — into PNG, JPG, or WebP. The target is always one of those three because they are the formats a browser can reliably write.

Does converting an image reduce its quality?

Converting to a lossless format (PNG) keeps every pixel. Converting to a lossy format (JPG, WebP) re-encodes the image, which is imperceptible at high quality. No conversion can restore detail an earlier lossy format already discarded.

Will converting keep transparency?

It depends on the target. PNG and WebP support transparency, so an alpha channel survives. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are flattened onto a solid background — convert to PNG or WebP if you need to keep them.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. The your image-to-another format conversion happens entirely in your browser using the built-in canvas engine — your images never leave your device, so it is safe to convert private or work files.

Is this converter free?

Yes — converting images to another format here is completely free, with no watermark, no account, and no limit on how many images you convert.
